I am a fervent supporter of the internationalisation of education. With my colleague, Christopher Gerry, I set up the International MA in Economy, State and Society. The MA was recognised as an Erasmus Mundus programme by the European Commission (the first MA led by a Russell Group university to receive this accolade), which brought with it scholarships for international students, totalling €3,150,000. On the basis of our co-operation with the Higher School of Economics in Russia, I also developed the curriculum of a new two-year MA in Comparative Russian and Eurasian Politics to be delivered by SSEES and HSE.
In 2009 I was awarded a Provost's Teaching Award for excellence in teaching.
